Open House April 8

This Saturday we did not have visitors. April is a visit time for families, so we are using this time to create new math activities to share at the house. Among some, we are exploring the tiling of the newly discover tile “Hat for Einstein” which is an aperiodic tile. That means that no translation with make it overlap with itself and match completely. But it is also a tile that can cover all the whole plane (infinite). Our teacher-students were exploring the tiling and the newly discover rule for tiling this “hat” by J. David Smith, J. Samuel Myers, Craig Kaplan, and Chaim Goodman-Strauss. Our students may participate in the contest offered by the Museum of Mathematics, if you are interested go to their webpage to receive more information: https://momath.org/einsteincontest/

Come visit us if you want to tile with us and discover new patterns!

In addition we are preping sets of Conics for teachers who are interested in manipulatives for their classes. Contact lsiegel@mathhappens.org if you are interested in a set.
