March 25th Family Saturday

Our visitors today were very smart and curious. One of them loves to understand the mechanism of machines, he loved the periscope and also explore with Tristan’s help the new rhombi tiles at the house. Our 2yr old visitor loved the sand table machine, and wanted to create his own figures on our rotating sand tray. They tried our walking puzzle, the “puzzle a day” and some of the color tiles, as well as drawing with the spirograph. Needles to say, the sand was the winner with this group!

We also had time to explore the newly discover “Einstein’s Hat Tile” which is an aperiodic tile. I used GeoGebra to designed it, and then Ryan and I played with the tiling, great geometry excersise for the mind! I attended a zoom talk by the math/computer science professors that discover and prove that it is aperiodic by the Museum of Mathematics (NY). At the end of this fun talk, they invited the world wide community to participite in a contest to design a drawing using this tile.
